Boogie Love...
Hawaiian Jacob Romero busting it down last season at Wedge... Classy cool guy with one of the most positive vibes I have ever seen.
Shaun Sansom in the place to be on a nice little Wedge drainer...
Mr. Wright on a nice open shoulder... This was used in an Alternative Surf advertisement and has been seen by many eyes, but I like the view from here and wanted to post it on this blog.
Unknown rider on one of the sets of the day at Wedge... I have tried to get his name with no luck. If you know him, please pass on his name. The next couple of frames are smile worthy.
Adam Dumas from last season at Wedge... This is one of my personal favorites. Crisp DK style and a nice morning sunrise in the background.
My boy, Jeff Yusa on a rare Hermosa Beach nugget... Jeff is an extremely talented photographer and great friend. Check out his work on liquidplayground.blogspot.com.
Cali to Kauai transplant Sean English at my favorite spot in Los Angeles... This was a rare barrel this day and his local knowledge paid off.
Good morning everyone... I found out late this morning that J.O.B. was out at Manhattan Pier. For those of you who are unaware, J.O.B. is an explosive stand up surfer from Oahu. I live 3 miles from the pier and stayed home. I know there will be some photo's popping up later to add to the burning. It's all good though, Family first and the lighting was junk today too.
So, since I missed shooting photo's of one of the best stand up surfers this morning, I am choosing to post some of my favorite bodyboarding images from the past year. Makes no sense I know, but it makes me happy. I have been a bodyboarder for almost 20 years now and will always love the sport.
I hope everyone is enjoying the new blog set up and photo's... If there is any pointers any of you can give me please do. As I said before, I am just posting images from the past year or so. As new session become available they will take priority.
Aloha everyone, have a great day and hope you scored some waves these past couple of days... Looks like next week is setting up to be smaller.
Cheers - JP

Hey Jeremy, it's Marcus. You asked for suggestions, so here's one: shoot some B&W film for some of your land shots! You have the talent and knowledge to do so. Get some grainy or semi-grainy B&W film and bust it out during your Wedge land-shooting seshes when the lighting is poor. All you need is an old EOS body (which would cost around $50-$200, depending on which you picked up) and it will open a whole new world. I think Fromex in Long Beach (on the way back from W) would be $5.50 to develop a 36 exposure roll of true B&W film. They do it in about an hour, and are a pro lab. Not a bad deal at all, if you have a flatbed scanner laying around you can put the negs in to digitize them. Also, you can optically print them later if you get a chance, which is a BLAST!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcus... I have been looking for a good film camera lately. I have an old medium format set up I love, but the other film ones have disappeared over the years.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for one with a solid burst mode (5FPS+) and all-around competency that will exceed your standards, look no further than an EOS 3. They are around $200-$300, so for a film body, they are relatively pricey. Nevertheless, they are worth it. But my buddy used one for awhile at art school and loved it. You can probably score one on Craigslist on the cheap, $200-$300+ would be dealer prices. Get one from someone dumping the body for whatever they can get on ebay or Craigslist and you'll be smiling ear to ear. I know that MB local Raymond Green at least used to shoot with an older A2 or A2E, and that goes a solid 5 FPS and is a great Canon body too. The A2/A2E would set you back a lot less (less than $100 on KEH).
